Kindergarten: A Year of Beginnings

Kindergarten at Augustine Classical Academy is a joyful introduction to learning that nurtures curiosity, builds confidence, and establishes strong academic and spiritual foundations. Through a thoughtful balance of structure and play, students begin their school journey with a love for learning and a readiness to grow.

Building Academic Foundations

Kindergarten focuses on developing essential skills in reading and math while cultivating joy in learning. Students learn letter sounds through systematic phonics instruction and engage with classic children’s literature. Math concepts are introduced through hands-on activities, songs, and daily practice that build confidence and number sense while pointing to God’s orderly world.

Faith, Character, and Community

Students are introduced to the story of Scripture through key passages from the Old and New Testaments, developing an early love for God’s Word and an understanding of biblical virtues. Daily routines and guided instruction help students grow in kindness, self-control, and respect as they learn what it means to be part of a caring classroom community.

Discovering God’s World

Through age-appropriate study of history, geography, and science, students begin to understand themselves, their families, and the world around them. They explore maps, observe nature, and develop curiosity through simple science experiences that encourage wonder and thoughtful observation.

A Thoughtful Daily Rhythm

Our program is designed to support school readiness. Each day includes a variety of activities—from songs and chants to quiet story time, hands-on learning, and imaginative play—helping children develop a “ready to learn” posture while honoring their natural love of discovery. We also get outside!

Half-Day and Full-Day Options

Augustine offers both half-day and full-day Kindergarten options, providing flexibility for families while maintaining a nurturing, intentional learning environment that supports each child’s growth.

Program Requirements

Children entering Kindergarten should be five years old by June 1 for boys and September 1 for girls of the year they enroll. While age is an important indicator of readiness, placement decisions are made on an individual basis with careful consideration of each child and the overall classroom environment. All students must complete entrance assessments in reading and math and, if needed, any required preparatory work prior to enrollment.

Families of children with identified special learning needs are encouraged to meet with the school to discuss whether Augustine Classical Academy is the right fit for their child’s educational journey.
